The Farm Team Goes Farming

by Brett Hite

This past Saturday, members of The Farm and the Columbia, MD chapter of the Early Career Development Program, in coordination with our local branch of Sustainability in Action, volunteered at Clagett Farm, a nearby farm that provides organic vegetables for sale through its community supported agriculture (CSA) program and to low income families through its volunteer program. We got there bright and early (for a Saturday!) and worked through the heat and humidity to harvest cucumbers, leeks, and kohlrabi. I think we all learned what a kohlrabi is and how to use pruning shears to actually get to the vegetable. You can see Farm Co-Director Nicholas Jackson masterfully washing the cream of the kohlrabi crop in one of the pictures below. And I think I made a new friend in the middle of the rows of leeks, where we also paused for a group photo.

On most days, members of The Farm are innovating and growing ideas toward maturation in the Cyber Intelligence & Operations Sector. Volunteering at Clagett Farm was an awesome opportunity to do a different type of farming while benefiting the local community, promoting values held both individually and by Parsons Gives Back.
